About Me

My photo
Flying Cat Farm, New Hampshire
I was born in Massachusetts in 1949 and brought up out in the countryside. My education was almost entirely in girls’ schools: Concord Academy, Vassar College and Mills College. I received my Masters in French from the Brandeis University program in Comparative Literature and spent a year doing graduate work at the Ecole Normale SupĂ©rieure in Paris. I have been married now for 25 years. We have two daughters in their early twenties. Also two yellow dogs and two aging cats. Our small New Hampshire village does not have a single traffic light so I think we must be living in the slow lane of our culture. Gardening fills my summer days; the girls like to joke that I work by the light of the white flowers. Winter for me is another kind of white bloom. Firelight and bright yarns illuminate the surrounding darkness. It's a good time for writing.

Thoughts about opening this new window.

One sentence and then another. Here begins a place and time where I might link some of what I hoped to accomplish with my website, Memoir Cafe, to different and perhaps wiser aspirations.

Memoir Cafe has vanished from the world but my drive to tell stories hasn't faded.
